GOING DIGITAL is a community of English language teachers who share a common passion in exploring and optimising the potentials of digital technology for language learning and teaching. It started in 2016 through a series of workshops to develop digital language learning materials and to enhance technological pedagogical content knowledge among ESL teachers in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. The workshops were organised through a collaboration between the Faculty of Education, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and Academic Management Unit of Kota Kinabalu District Education Office (UPA, PPD KK).
Since then, GOING DIGITAL has extended its collaborations with two more partners: the School of Education, University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) and University of Languages and International Studies, Vietnam (ULIS-VNU). The community has also expanded its memberships to include English language teachers from other parts of Sabah and Malaysia.
GOING DIGITAL now serves as an online platform for English language teachers to exchange knowledge, to share experiences, and to collaborate on projects related to technology integration practices in the language classrooms. Our main focus is on exploring how digital technology can be fully utilised to enhance language learning and teaching in low resource contexts.
