Video Project to teach English Literature
Claire Leslie Sylvester teaches upper secondary level in Kota Kinabalu High School, Sabah, Malaysia. Getting her Form Four students to love English literature is quite a daunting task, since many of her students are more interested in activities like surfing the Internet and watching Youtube videos compared to reading or writing. To get her students to be more excited about English drama, Claire decided to assign a video project where her students would have to produce a short video clip based on a short play of their choice.
The result, according to Claire, was amazing. The students were able to rewrite the scripts and produce video-recordings of themselves acting out the plays. The project has succeeded in instilling the love for short plays and English literature among her students. Here are five video clips that Claire's students have produced. The video clips are all based on the stories in Five Short Plays by Martyn Ford. Enjoy!
